Position Summary:

Support the Business Excellence Management, Leads and Senior Process Engineers in driving continuous improvement, design, operations, standardization and control of processes. Support the Business Excellence Team alongside external consulting firms and with internal partners in various organizations, corporate departments shore side and shipboard. Function as an in-house process driver of matrixed operating department.   

Support defining need or problem, gather and analyze data, and advise recommended course of action. Perform process redesign and organization analysis studies to promote efficient and economical staff and facilities utilization on existing and new generation vessels. Assist Business Excellence Management and Senior Process Engineers with development, implementation and maintenance of Lean methodologies and tools. The Program is aimed to improve business performance across the department portfolio. This role will use advance planning, workflow methods, risk management and quality management to support the program (& project) objectives. Furthermore, provide expertise and best practice implementation with regards to process improvement disciplines.    

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist in driving process development, improvement and standardization across Program and Project Management according to Lean Philosophy
  • Assist in Project Delivery and operational efficiency focused projects and proofs of concept for the department while managing key external partners.
  • Develop Lean methods and tools for customer requirements and critical process features
  • Support and/or assists with the development, testing and deployment of technology improvements.
  • Organize, moderate, and document internal and external program related workshops to improve processes, manage planning and execution of projects as well as changes in progress
  • Advise Program and Project Management on alternate methods of solving need or problem and recommend specific solution
  • Apply analytical techniques to drive process improvements, generally quality improvement, cost reduction or revenue increase and enhance delivery services
  • Determine root causes of defects in performance through data analysis, decomposition and process observation
  • Utilize principles of industrial engineering to evaluate work method proposals and to develop recommendations to management
  • Assist in implementing a feedback culture, support the associated actions and incorporate feedback into future efforts such as: the development and updates of solution documentation and user trainings both for end-users and internal reference. Complete project documentation packages
  • Monitor strategic and operational Key Performance Indicators to identify opportunities for improvement
  • Support knowledge sharing as well as identify process benchmarks within and outside the maritime industry
  • Collaborate with counterparts in other business areas to complete validation of new processes from initiation to end

Job Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Industrial Engineering, Business Management, Construction Management or equivalent field
  • Minimum 1-2 years of related work experience
  • Profound understanding of Lean Management
  • Basic project and risk management experience
  • The candidate must be comfortable working with many internal and external partners and comfortable in asking for information and following up till the required data is received from a variety of internal departments and external vendors
  • This position may regularly travel domestically or internationally

  • Working knowledge of personal computers within a Windows environment
  • Profound knowledge in Microsoft Excel, Word and Power Point
  • Working knowledge of computer applications including: Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Acrobat, Visio, Microsoft Project
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to communicate in a multicultural environment with all levels of employees and management
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with multiple projects and priorities

LANGUAGE SKILLS

  • Solid written and verbal English communication skills are a must
  • A significant amount of interpersonal communications and interaction is required to be successful at this work
  • Clear and precise communication at all levels of an organization essential
  • Ability to communicate effectively with various departments within the organization, both shipboard and shore side, audiences that include but are not limited to management, coworkers, clients, vendors, contractors, and visitors
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret common scientific and technical journals, business periodicals, financial reports, legal documents and government regulations
  • Further language skills are a plus

Work Environment:

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. A higher noise level is possible if visiting shipboard, offsite or warehouse locations. While in dry dock, housing will be on board and living conditions could be considered akin to camping. Significant walking and stair climbing is required, and large amount of dust and debris are present. Proper hard hats, safety glasses and shoes are required.
